Norma The Gecko

Hello and Welcome to my Webpage!

My name is Norma and I am a crested gecko. I am one of the many pets that live here at Sci-Quest, including a Russian tortoise, two water turtles, and a ball python. I have lived here since March 2009, and was a donation from a local breeder. I was just six weeks old when I moved here.

You can visit me anytime at Sci-Quest, because my home is at the front desk! Come say "hi"- I love meeting new people!

Below, I have listed some AMAZING facts about me:

•    I, a crested gecko, am one of six
species of New Caledonian Geckos which are referred to as “giant geckos”.
•    It was thought that the geckos were extinct for more than 100 years until they were rediscovered in New Caledonia in 1994.

•   The average size for an adult crested gecko is 7 inches.  Hatchlings are 3 inches.

•    All of us giant geckos have expanded toe pads that allow them to climb vertically on smooth surfaces.

•    I have no eyelids and so I lick my eyes to clean them.
•    Most of us have prehensile tails that have flattened tips that can curl and grab things. I dropped or lost mine, and it will not grow back. But I get along just fine.
•    I am an omnivore and eat insects and fruit. I am nocturnal and live in the forest area of trees.
