Parents' Night Out

The third Friday of every month*
5:30PM - 9:00PM

Are you ready for a night out? Sure you are, and you deserve it! Sign your children up for Sci-Quest's Parents' Night Out and spend a Friday night on your terms. Your children will enjoy a pizza dinner, age-appropriate science activities, and time with Sci-Quest's hands-on exhibits.

Parents' Night Out is offered for children ages 4-12. The cost of Parents' Night Out is $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child in the same family. Sci-Quest Members receive a 10% discount. Advanced reservations are required. Registration must be completed by 5 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the event. Please print the registration form and return it to Sci-Quest by fax (256-837-4536) or in person to save your spot!


Parents' Night Out dates and program topics for 2010:

  • January 15 - Bounce, Bounce
    Your children will be guaranteed to have a bouncing good time as they explore the science behind all things bouncy. Discover how the properties of balls can make them bounce high (or maybe not) and do a chemical experiment where each child will get to make their own bouncy ball to take home with them in a matter of minutes!
  • February 19 - Heart and Blood
    This program will be sure to get your children’s heart pumping as we explore the circulatory system. Children will learn the major components of blood and observe a real dissected sheep heart.
  • * March 26 - Tornadoes *
    Feel the force of a tornado in this program about severe weather. Children will learn about the different types of clouds, how weather fronts work, and get a tornado tube to take home.
  • April 16 - Polymers
    Children will be introduced to the world of chemical reactions as they experiment with polymer snow, slime, and even extract polymers from diapers. We will even give you some Sci-Quest slime to take home!
  • May 21 - Fossils
    Your children are sure to have a rockin' good time as they learn about how fossils are made and why they are important. Children will clean a fossil just like a paleontologist and get a fossil replica to take home.
  • June 18 – Volcanoes
    From ancient myths to modern headlines, volcanoes are among the world’s most amazing phenomena. Discover the mighty forces inside a volcano as your children learn about the layers of the Earth, how volcanoes form, and make a mini-volcano in a test tube to take home with them.
  • July 16 - Jitterbugs
    Make a robotic bug that will shake and shimmy all by itself! Using simple electrical components, participants will discover how circuits and electricity works as children make their own robot.
  • August 20 - Bugs
    Discover everything there is to know about bugs and insects. Learn what makes an insect an insect as you build your own insect. See Sci-Quest’s collection of real insects. Even make your own glowing lightning bug to take home. Maybe you will be brave enough to eat a real insect!
  • September 17 - Forensics
    Children will put their crime fighting skills to the test as they learn about crime science, make and analyze fingerprints, and get a magnifying glass to take home.
  • October 15 - Glow in the Dark
    You won't need a light to see how cool science can be! Children will investigate the different ways things can glow by doing hands-on chemical reactions, seeing glowing animals, and even getting a glowing rock to take home.
  • November 19 - Hot Stuff
    It’s getting hot in here! Discover the science behind the flames and the engineering that goes into putting them out. Learn why not all fires are bad, and why you should never play with fire.
  • December 17 - Holiday Crafts
    This holiday themed program is NEW every year. Children make science-themed presents for their friends and family.

*The March Parent’s Night Out will not be on the third Friday night due to spring break.
It will be held on the fourth Friday night.
