The Sprouting Scientist program is specifically designed for toddlers ages 2-3, and preschoolers ages 4-5. Much like the popular PBS children's show Sid the Science Kid, Sci-Quest's weekly Sprouting Scientist program will feature an experienced preschool educator who will present an exciting hands-on activity, story and music that is focused around a selected scientific theme.

Monthly Themes
January - Senses
"Making sense of the world around us"
Children will gain a better understanding of their senses as they learn the observation tools they carry with them everywhere they go.
- Jan. 5 - Smell: Children will learn about their nose as they study the sense of smell
- Jan. 12 - Sight: Seeing is believing - and children will improve their powers of observations as they learn about the human eye.
- Jan. 19 - Hearing: Listen closely! Children will test their listening skills as they learn about hearing and its importance in learning about life's adventures.
- Jan. 26 - Touch: Children will be encouraged to please touch, and develop their sense of touch as they feel different textures and materials.
February - Transformations and change
"Where did my snowman go?"
Children will learn how the big ideas of chemistry, biology and physics cause changes in everyday life.
- Feb. 2 - Changes caused by Heat: It may be February, but this class will warm-up as children study how heat causes changes in various objects.
- Feb. 9 - Changes caused by cold temperatures: Children will make chemical reactions that get cold, hot and everything in between, as they learn about cold temperatures.
- Feb. 16 - Growth: Who is the tallest in the class? Students will use measurements to learn about growth and changes that are taking place in our bodies every day?
- Feb. 23 - Decay: Eww Gross! What happened to that food?!?! Children will experience what happens to food as it decays; find out why decay happens, and how decay is a natural part of life.
March - Human Body
“Why do I have to eat vegetables?”
Children will learn about the amazing things our bodies do and why we have to take care of them.
- March 2 - Nutrition & Digestion: Children will explore our insides with Stuffee, Sci-Quest’s oversized doll whose chest unzips to reveal pillow-like organs.
- March 9 - Bones: Our amazing bones are even stronger than wood, concrete, and steel. Children will learn how our bones work together and search for your funny bone.
- March 23 - Exercise & Movement: Children will discover how different body parts work together so we can think, talk, move, and play.
- March 30 - Germs: Cover your sneeze please! Children will learn how germs are spread and how things we cannot see can make us feel yucky.
April - Simple Machines
“How can I move that rock?”
Children will learn how simple machines make moving things easier.
- April 6 - Wheels: Imagine a world without wheels! Join as we make a car with square wheels and learn that things that roll are round.
- April 13 - Inclined Planes: I think I can, I think I can, work isn’t too hard with inclined planes. Children will learn what an inclined plane is and how it makes work easier.
- April 20 - Pulleys: We’ve got some heavy lifting to do. Will a pulley help us get our basket up, up, up? Children will try out a pulley and see how much they can lift.
- April 26 - Levers: Handles, see-saws, and marshmallow launchers: children will learn how levers make our lives easier and more fun.
May - Animal Habitats
“What’s so special about a leaf?”
Children will explore the homes of plants and animals and observe their behavior. Children will be exposed to the sciences of entomology, geology, and botany that are all right there in their own backyard!
- May 4 - Leaves: Children will discover how different leaves can be and how a leaf can tell you so much about the tree.
- May 11 - Animal Communication: Can you tell what animals are trying to tell you? Children will learn the bee dance, the elephant stomp, and other ways animals “talk” without using words.
- May 18 - Dirt: Get down and dirty with dirt. Children will learn that dirt has parents, discover why dirt is so important, and encounter an animal that lives in the dirt.
- May 25 - Animal Habitats: Whose house is this? Children will see how animals’ homes have some similarities and differences from ours.
